I like to do things to spice up my life a bit.  Working as a physical therapist, driving kids to and from school and activities every day can get a little boring. Some days I can put 80 miles on my minivan just driving from our house to and from ‘town’.   When I got an email from Mlife  offering free tickets to see Cher at the Park Theater  at the Monte Carlo Hotel  in Las Vegas , I really wanted to make it happen.

I do not usually get offers like this but I am assuming they were just trying to fill seats because Cher had just started her tour at their new theater.  I decided to try to squeeze this trip in between hockey games and piano lessons.  I was able to find a one way return ticket on Spirit Airlines for $39.  I had never flown with them but that is the cheapest I had ever seen!   For departure I flew Sun Country Airlines and used points that I had accumulated to get the ticket price down.

To try to get a cheaper flight I always check both the round trip price and each way price.  Sometimes it is less expensive to fly two different airlines.  I always book directly with an airline.   I also use credit card reward points to pay for partial or all of the ticket costs.  Spirit charges extra for all baggage, including a carry on, so my friend Jodi and I wore multiple layers of clothes and put everything we would need into a “purse” which is free to carry on. Check with  baggage size guidelines directly with Spirit Airlines to see what is allowed.  We also saved with Spirit because we did not get seats pre -assigned and checked in online.

With the concert tickets, Mlife also offered a free night stay. We did not have to buy additional nights because our plane would be leaving right after the concert.

When we checked into our room it was  nearly midnight and the room was musty and smoky smelling.  We both got headaches within a few minutes.  We let the front desk know and they sent someone to “fix” it.  We thought they would bring in an air purifier but instead sprayed smelly chemical all over the place.  The bottle was left and I read the instructions to say no more then a few sprays in a room.  He did about 9.   We were so frustrated we marched back up to the desk to complain.  By this time we were so tired and crabby.  We were told there were no rooms left in the entire hotel so we were offered $75 room credit instead.   Long story short, in our 24 hours in Vegas we did not have to pay for any food!   (This is not the common occurrence at the Monte Carlo.   They are going through a major renovation.  I have stayed there multiple times and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

We took a red eye home and I was back in time to pick up the kids from school. What a vacation!

Free Room, Free Concert and Free Food

Sometimes you just have to take chances, be spontaneous and live life to its fullest!  Take opportunities and if you don’t have them, create them.  What is the craziest spontaneous thing you have ever done?
