Trip Report-Discount Las Vegas with Mom
I have been to Las Vegas many times with my husband and friends. I never even considered a trip with my mom! It turned out to be an amazing time and in case you wanted to plan a trip with your mom I have some suggestions.
It all started when my friends’ moms were talking at our annual fall party we host. They decided since we high school friends have all gone to Vegas and have had so much fun in the past, they were going to join us. This would be their first time. At first I was a little hesitant, because I remembered the crazy diaper guy that stands downtown holding his bottle, and all the guys flicking the cards at you as you walk buy them on the strip. Did I want to expose my mom to those people in Vegas? But I realized what a great opportunity for me and my friends. (And I was up for the challenge of seeing how many discounts I could find and use!)
We stayed at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino because I am signed up for their players card (Total Rewards) and was offered 1 free room and 2 discounted rooms. We shared the discount to make it a great deal for everyone. Here is another great package you can use if you are staying at a Total Rewards Hotel.
Room and Buffet package comes with 2 Buffet of Buffets passes. Guests must be booked for two or more nights.
I was worried about all the extensive walking that is required to be able to see everything in Las Vegas. An online search for mobility scooter rentals in Las Vegas solved that and the scooters were delivered right to the hotel. They worked out really good and Las Vegas turns out to be more accessible then I realized. We wanted to visit the Venetian which is at the other end of the strip so all we did was let the valet know and he called a scooter accessible cab and we were off! Before the trip I was able to find discount tickets to All Shook Up at the SAX Theater at Planet Hollywood using a Groupon. Of course I made sure that we were in the front row so that Elvis could give the moms some EXTRA special attention. And they got it all right!
We also had some MYVEGAS players in the group so we were able to redeem our points for food credit at the Nine Fine Irishman at New York New York. To learn of more ways I have saved money in Las Vegas playing MYVEGAS see this blog post. We had such a great time with many laughs. Most all nights at Nine Fine Irishman there is a really great band that plays Irish music. They happen to be off this week, but if you are ever in Vegas be sure to see them. There is also an older lady who dances there almost every night. She is dressed in heels and dances like nobody’s watching. I don’t personally know her but she has been there every time I have been there in the last 8 years.
We also used our MYVEGAS to get discounted tickets to Beatles LOVE at the Mirage. What a great show! I have seen it 3 times now and enjoy it each time. The stage is in the center of the theater and there are dancers and acrobats all over the place it is hard to know where to look. I see new things each time I watch. We ate dinner at Cravings, the Buffett at the Mirage, of course at a discount! Again we used MYVEGAS for buy one get one credit for the buffet. It included wine and beer too!
Other places we visited were the M&M store, the dinner Buffet at Paris, and Samballate coffee shop at Monte Carlo which has a wonderful outdoor seating area. We sat there for over an hour enjoying the sunshine and watching people pass by.

I can’t go to Vegas with newbies without taking them to the Las Vegas Sign and a Limo Ride to downtown. Our phones never take great pictures of the sign because of the lights so I was happy to see for the second time now a guy with a nice camera at the sign willing to take pictures for us and airdrop them to our phones. Be sure to look for him if you want some really great photos.
The last night we all went up to the overpass to view the Las Vegas City Lights. We reflected on the amazing time we had and the many laughs. There was a Pandora box involved as well- which was so thoughtful and kind.
We had such an amazing and memorable time, but were really sad that one of our friends and her mom could not go because of stupid cancer in the family. We did decide that it was not going to be a one time trip. My friends and I saw another side of our moms. The dancing, flirting with Elvis and scooter racing sides of them. We laughed so hard all weekend I think someone even peed their pants. Just kidding…now if I could just find that video of the late night scooter race I could see who won!
Vacations are a time to make memories. Making memories will last a lifetime. Give thanks to your friends and family and cherish the times you can make memories with them, both big and small. Happy Travels!
